NOTICE: $500 MILLION IN FLOOD AID PASSES IN LAST MINUTE ACCOMMODATION.
I'm pleased to report that a last minute accommodation between the parties in congress resulted in the $500 million in flood aid being passed by the Senate yesterday afternoon and by the House last night. The arrangement funds the operations of the Federal Government through the election and averts a shutdown. The spending deal now goes to the President's desk for signature -- in the next 24 hours.
The last-minute effort means that we will not have to wait until the new Administration and Congress are sworn in for initial resources to address our recovery needs. There is still significant work to do this Fall and into the Spring to ensure our long-term needs are considered.
I am proud to have worked with our congressional delegation, the Governor and our major stakeholders in this effort. Everyone pitched in and worked together, regardless of politics and partisanship. Now, we can focus on the task ahead. #WorkingTogether #RecoveringTogether
